Sarah Vermont spent most of her career as a journalist with BBC Radio but began her metamorphosis into a garden designer in 2003 when she joined the BSc Horticulture course at Writtle College. She completed a year’s study in garden design and horticultural science followed by a practical year at Helmingham Hall in Suffolk. The writing was on the wall in the 1980′s when she spent two weeks’ leave working at Sissinghurst Castle under Vita Sackville-West’s famous head gardeners, Sybille Kreutzberger and Pamela Schwerdt.
Sarah is a plantswoman and specialises in designing borders that will carry you through the seasons with plenty of colour and interest. Part of her whole design process is to teach you what she and her team are doing as they plant and how to look after everything after they have gone. Many of her clients ask her back on a seasonal basis to check on how the garden is progressing and what further planting or general re-jigging is needed.
Igor Barysenka has worked with Sarah for ten years. He runs his own landscaping business and is well experienced in all aspects of gardening, particularly Sarah’s methods of planting.
